Mitt Romney's Deficit Priorities and Mine

At his Las Vegas townhall, Mitt Romney laid out his budget deficit priorities (as well as some other issues, so skip to the 12 minute mark). Let's match them up with mine.

Budget CategoryShareRomney PriorirtiesMy Priorities
Defense20%No cuts, redirect waste to boots on ground, modern equipment, updated air force, and larger navyReduce overall defense spending as our troops return from overseas, double the Navy Seals
Discretionary20%Pull way back, cut dramaticallyReview program by program, keep the effective ones, cut the ineffective
Entitlements60%Put on pathway to sustainabilityWork on cost containment now, not changes that will only cut outlays 10 or 50 years from now
For entitlements, Mitt counts medicaid, medicare, social security, and interest. I'll work with his categories and numbers. This is big picture, but you have to start somewhere.
